Giants project roster ahead of Cowboys clash as Harbaugh demands execution
New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has emphasised game readiness and precision over training camp exercises as the team prepares for its Week 1 Sunday Night Football showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants have released their second projection of the 53-man roster entering Preseason Week 2, outlining the personnel structure as the team finalises preparations for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. The projection follows a 13-10 preseason defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, a result that has intensified the coaching staff’s focus on operational precision rather than mere participation.
Head coach John Harbaugh has made it clear that the current phase of training camp, currently held at home after earlier sessions at The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, is distinct from the technical drills of the offseason. Harbaugh emphasised that the objective is now strictly about execution and game readiness, stating that practices are designed to replicate the intensity of actual competition rather than serving as routine exercises.
The projected offensive depth chart places Jaxson Dart at the helm as the starting quarterback, with Jameis Winston serving as the backup. The pairing is viewed as a strategic combination, leveraging Dart’s potential alongside Winston’s experience as a mentor. Brandon Allen remains on the roster as the third-string option, bringing familiarity with pass game coordinator Brian Callahan, despite being intercepted twice in the recent loss to the Vikings.
At running back, Cam Skattebo is projected as the lead ball carrier, marking a significant step in his recovery from a severe ankle and lower leg injury sustained the previous October. He is supported by Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. Tracy’s position faces scrutiny after failing to pick up a blitz in the Vikings game, an error that directly impacted Dart, though he has shown promise throughout the summer.
The wide receiver group is anchored by Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Malachi Fields as the projected starters. The backup contingent includes Calvin Austin, Darnell Mooney, Odell Beckham Jr., and Braxton Berrios. Complicating the depth chart is the status of Turbo Miller, who is reported to be dealing with an abdomen strain. It remains uncertain whether the Giants will seek additional veteran reinforcements given Miller’s potential absence.
Undrafted rookie Damon Bankston is viewed as a likely addition to the practice squad, providing depth for the developmental roster. The projection serves as a snapshot of the team’s current standing, subject to change as the final roster cuts approach and the team continues to refine its performance ahead of the high-stakes Week 1 matchup.
