Giants manage Andrew Thomas’s workload amid injury concerns
New York Giants are monitoring foot and shoulder issues for starting left tackle Andrew Thomas, with head coach John Harbaugh scheduling maintenance days to ensure readiness for the September season.

New York Giants starting left tackle Andrew Thomas has returned to limited duty during the team’s organised team activities (OTAs), participating in two of the first three sessions. The decision reflects a structured approach to managing Thomas’s physical condition, with head coach John Harbaugh implementing maintenance days to address lingering foot and shoulder issues.
Thomas, who missed the first two games of the 2025 season while recovering from a Lisfranc injury sustained in 2024, described the current protocol as a precautionary measure. Speaking via video from the team, Thomas stated that he and the medical staff are “doing our best to manage it” through a ramp-up plan designed to ensure he is prepared for the start of the regular season in September.
The left tackle characterised his shoulder issue as “lingering” but expressed confidence that it is “in a good place.” He acknowledged the difficulty of balancing recovery with the desire to improve, noting, “Obviously, what we care about is September, being ready. I've been trusting that. It's definitely tough sometimes, because I want to push and I want to get better. But I'm trying to trust the process to make sure I'm ready to go when it counts.”
Thomas also confirmed that a strained hamstring, which caused him to miss the final two games of the previous season, is no longer an issue. During Thomas’s absence from the OTAs, second-year swing tackle Marcus Mbow has taken his reps. Additionally, first-round pick Francis Mauigoa is currently working with the starters at right guard.
The Giants are currently in the early stages of their offseason programme, with the team having held its first three OTAs this week. The management of Thomas’s workload highlights the club’s focus on long-term availability over immediate performance in the pre-season period.
