Georgia Bulldogs safety faces felony drug charges following traffic stop

Georgia Bulldogs safety Ja’Marley Riddle has been arrested in Glynn County on two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor speeding charge. The charges follow a traffic stop on Friday night, with a police report obtained by WGIG 98.7 FM detailing the circumstances of the incident.
According to the report, officers observed Riddle driving an SUV at approximately 95 miles per hour and weaving through traffic. Upon stopping the vehicle, police noted that Riddle appeared extremely nervous and was shaking. Officers also detected the odour of marijuana emanating from inside the car.
Riddle denied having marijuana in the vehicle but consented to a search. During the search, officers retrieved a backpack containing a large heat-sealed bag with multicolored packaging. The packaging contained a leafy substance identified as marijuana, as well as vapes stating THC.
The Glynn County Police Department did not immediately respond to an information request from The Associated Press regarding the arrest. Riddle, who transferred to Georgia from East Carolina University ahead of the upcoming season, is currently subject to an ongoing legal matter.
A spokesperson for the University of Georgia confirmed the institution is aware of the charges and is actively gathering additional information. The university declined to provide further comment while the legal matter remains ongoing.
During his two seasons at East Carolina, Riddle recorded 133 total tackles, 10 pass deflections, and six interceptions, including one pick-six. He is 19 years old.
