Fulton weight miss sparks cancellation of Sydney bout with Wilson

The scheduled super featherweight contest between Stephen Fulton and Liam Wilson has been cancelled following Fulton’s failure to meet the agreed weight limit for his bout in Sydney. Fulton weighed in at 139.5 pounds, missing the 133-pound catchweight limit by 6.5 pounds during the official weigh-in on Saturday. The cancellation affects the co-feature slot on the card headlined by Errol Spence Jr and Tim Tszyu.

Wilson’s management team issued a scathing assessment of Fulton’s professionalism in the wake of the weight miss. Coach Ben Harrington stated that Fulton appeared to have “no intentions of making it” and demonstrated no effort during the process. Manager Glenn Jennings described the situation as an “absolute stitch-up,” citing a signed contract for 130 pounds and labeling the outcome as unacceptable and a blight on the sport.

The incident marks the second consecutive fight in which the former two-division champion has failed to make weight. Fulton previously missed the 130-pound limit by two pounds for a scheduled WBC super featherweight title challenge against O’Shaquie Foster in December. That bout was subsequently changed to a WBC interim lightweight title fight at the last minute.

Promoter No Limit had previously agreed to adjust the weight limit for the Wilson bout to 133 pounds at Fulton’s request. The contest was originally announced as a WBA super featherweight title eliminator. Despite the revised agreement, Fulton was unable to meet the catchweight limit, resulting in the immediate cancellation of the fight.

Fulton, who moved up to the super featherweight division in 2025, will return to Philadelphia without a fight. He has not weighed in under the 130-pound limit in either of his scheduled fights since moving up in weight. The cancellation leaves the Sydney card without its planned co-feature bout.
