Florida State University quarterback Ashton Daniels addressed the media following Wednesday’s practice session, outlining his focus on ball security and decision-making as the Seminoles prepare for the 2026 college football season. Head coach Mike Norvell praised Daniels’ performance during fall camp, describing it as one of the quarterback’s best days and noting a visible increase in his confidence.
Daniels confirmed his assessment of his own play, citing significant improvements in situational awareness and the ability to manage game scenarios. He emphasised the importance of avoiding turnovers, noting that he has focused on knowing when to take a sack or throw the ball away rather than putting the football in jeopardy. The quarterback stated that avoiding careless mistakes has been a primary area of development since the start of his career.
The discussion also touched on the offensive unit’s mentality, with Daniels describing a culture of moving past errors one play at a time. He highlighted the “brotherhood” within the offence, explaining that players support each other between snaps to maintain focus. This approach aims to ensure that bad plays do not derail potential game-winning drives, with the unit working to flush mistakes and reset immediately.
Daniels attributed his growing confidence to the schemes and play-calling implemented by the coaching staff. He expressed trust in the strategic direction provided by Norvell and the broader support staff, including the training and strength teams. This structural support, he noted, allows him to play freely without unnecessary hesitation, contributing to the overall efficiency of the offence.
In addition to offensive improvements, Daniels identified backup quarterback Malachi Marshall and voiced strong confidence in the defensive line.
