FSG Acquires Boston Common Golf Team for Inaugural WTGL Season

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has acquired the Boston Common Golf team to compete in the Women's Team Golf League (WTGL) for the upcoming season. The transaction marks the organisation’s first ownership stake in a women’s professional golf team and solidifies its existing relationship with TMRW Sports, the parent company of both WTGL and the men’s TGL. FSG, which also owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC, becomes the fifth franchise owner to join the new league.

The acquisition strengthens FSG’s position within the TMRW Sports ecosystem. The group was among the original ownership groups in TGL and an early investor in TMRW Sports. FSG’s involvement in women’s golf dates back to 2023, when Fenway Sports Management entered a partnership with the LPGA to expand sponsorship and marketing opportunities. This move is viewed as the next step in that strategic alignment.

Linda Henry, FSG partner and CEO of Boston Globe Media, stated that the group believes in investing early in ideas with the potential to grow and evolve the sports landscape. She noted that their investment in TMRW Sports and partnership with the LPGA have reinforced their confidence in the future of women’s golf. Henry described WTGL as a natural next step and expressed pride in bringing Boston Common Golf to the league.

Mike McCarley, founder and CEO of TMRW Sports, highlighted FSG’s long-standing partnership with the organisation. He stated that Fenway Sports Group understands what it takes to build an enduring team brand in one of the world’s most passionate sports markets. McCarley added that Boston Common Golf brings an established identity, a passionate fan base, and an ownership group with a record of growing iconic sports properties.

The WTGL season is scheduled to debut this autumn at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The league will utilise a fast-paced team match-play format featuring LPGA Tour stars. Fourteen players have been announced for the inaugural season, including six of the top 13 players in the world rankings. Collectively, the announced players hold 95 LPGA Tour victories, with additional roster announcements expected before the season begins.

Other WTGL owners include Arthur M. Blank for Atlanta, Steve Cohen for New York, Michael Hamp, Peter Hamp, and Kevin Kelleher for Detroit, and Alexis Ohanian with Serena and Venus Williams for Los Angeles. The specific financial terms of the FSG acquisition have not been disclosed.
