France’s narrow win in Zidane debut overshadowed by Mbappé injury

France began Zinedine Zidane’s tenure as coach with a 1–0 Nations League win over Türkiye in Izmit, but Kylian Mbappé’s apparent left knee injury cast a shadow over the result.
Mbappé scored his 67th international goal, finishing low at the near post after Michael Olise set him up. He received treatment and tried to continue, then left the field and was replaced by Désiré Doué.
France and Real Madrid are awaiting further information about the injury. The report did not give a diagnosis or recovery timeline.
Türkiye goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakır was sent off late in the match after a VAR review. He had handled the ball outside his area while moving to stop France substitute Bradley Barcola.
Zidane was appointed in late July on a contract through 2030. France are scheduled to play Belgium in Brussels on Monday, with three matches in total over the next 10 days before the club season resumes.
