France 24 reports African involvement in Ukraine war, DRC protest and Kenya athletics bid

Thousands of Africans are involved in Russia’s war in Ukraine, either fighting or working on behalf of the Kremlin, according to a report by France 24’s Eye on Africa programme.

The programme includes an interview with a journalist who had recently returned from Ukraine. It does not independently verify the estimate or specify the nationalities, roles, recruitment arrangements or exact locations of those involved.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the C64 opposition coalition held a demonstration in the capital, Kinshasa. France 24’s report does not provide details about attendance, the coalition’s demands or any official response.

Kenya is also reported to have defeated London in the race to host the 2029 World Championships. The report does not identify the governing body behind the decision.
