Fox Sports television analyst Danny Parkins has unveiled a ranking of the ten most compelling NFL players heading into the 2026 season, prioritising narrative stakes and entertainment value over traditional positional hierarchies. The list, discussed on the programme First Things First, highlights established stars, potential trade targets, and high-stakes individual situations rather than pure roster worth.

Retired defensive end Aaron Donald opens the countdown at number ten, a placement driven by speculation surrounding a potential comeback with the Los Angeles Rams. Donald has reportedly been spotted working out at the team facility, prompting Parkins to note that his return would be a "fascinating story" given his status as a first-time All-Pro who walked away while still elite. Parkins described Donald as arguably the best defensive player of his lifetime, citing his top-tier pass rush win rate.

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud occupies the ninth spot, facing significant pressure to improve after an inconsistent second half of the previous season and a poor playoff performance. Although Houston exercised his fifth-year option, Parkins suggested that the quarterback’s future in Houston remains uncertain, questioning whether the team might look to the market for alternatives such as J.J. McCarthy, Davis Mills, or Jimmy Garoppolo if Stroud fails to recapture his rookie efficiency.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker is ranked eighth, viewed as a critical addition to an offence that has historically struggled to establish a rushing presence. Parkins labelled Walker the best running back Patrick Mahomes has played alongside, noting that the Chiefs have never ranked higher than 16th in rushing yards per game during Mahomes’ tenure. The acquisition is expected to enhance the play-action game, thereby opening up opportunities for the quarterback.

Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Max Crosby lands at number seven, projected as a potential in-season trade candidate due to timeline misalignments with the team’s young talent. Parkins indicated that a strong start to the season could prompt the Raiders to move Crosby, reflecting the shifting dynamics within the franchise as it navigates its roster construction ahead of the 2026 campaign.
