Four killed in Russian strike on Kharkiv region as diplomatic talks proceed
Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov reported that a Russian strike on the city of Chuguiv killed four people and wounded 10 others, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described recent discussions with US envoys as positive.

Russian strikes killed four people and wounded 10 others in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region early on Tuesday, according to local officials. The attack specifically targeted the city of Chuguiv, causing fires, damaging residential buildings and vehicles, and adding to a surge in civilian casualties amid intensified fighting in recent months.
Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov confirmed the casualties on the Telegram messaging app, stating that one of the deceased was a 22-year-old woman. He detailed the extent of the structural damage, noting that the strikes damaged at least 18 vehicles and resulted in blown-out windows and facade damage to residential multi-storey buildings.
Separately, Kharkiv mayor Igor Terekhov reported that 10 people were wounded in the city. The confirmation of specific casualty figures and infrastructure damage comes as daily Russian attacks claiming civilian lives have intensified in recent months.
Ukraine has responded with its own drone strikes further into Russian territory, stating these are primarily directed against military and energy facilities. The escalation in kinetic operations contrasts with diplomatic developments reported on Monday, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described talks with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as positive.
According to a United Nations estimate published in April, at least 15,850 civilians have been killed in Ukrainian-controlled zones since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. The UN toll also indicated that more than 2,800 civilians have died in Russian-controlled zones, with over 44,800 wounded across both Ukrainian and Russian-occupied areas.
