Fostering the Future network expands to 26 universities with $2 million donation
A new partnership with IndyCar and Fox Corporation will fund scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University, broadening the First Lady’s initiative for foster youth.
The Fostering the Future initiative, established by First Lady Melania Trump in 2021, has expanded its national network to 26 academic institutions following a $2 million donation from IndyCar and Fox Corporation. The funds are designated to support scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University for students from the foster care community. The announcement was made during a Rose Garden ceremony, where an IndyCar race car featuring BE BEST and Fostering the Future branding was displayed.
The expansion adds to a coast-to-coast alliance that already includes leading institutions such as the Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin, Arizona State University, University of Georgia, University of Texas, Louisiana State University, University of Alabama, and University of Florida. The initiative aims to empower individuals from foster care to pursue university education, launch careers, and achieve financial independence.
Eric Shanks, CEO and Executive Producer at FOX Sports, stated that the partnership reflects a belief in the transformative power of sports to create opportunity through expanded educational access. IndyCar President J. Douglas Boles described the First Lady as a champion for students, noting that the initiative is critical to unlocking a more promising future for young minds.
The initiative will be prominently featured during the Freedom 250 Grand Prix race weekend in Washington, DC, on 22–23 August 2026. The event, which will air on FOX and FOX One, is designed to raise awareness and support for the foster care community. Every race car in the Grand Prix will feature a specially designed BE BEST logo, ensuring the winner crosses the finish line in support of the initiative.
The race course will wrap around the National Mall, offering views of iconic landmarks. The Fostering the Future logo will be displayed on the track at the overpass on 7th Street and Jefferson Drive. First Lady Melania Trump noted that the initiative’s scholarships supported the education of the first doctor from the foster care community in the previous spring.
The programme is supported by the Fostering the Future Executive Order and the Fostering the Future Act. Recent developments include securing $30 million in President Trump’s FY2026 budget for the HUD’s Melania Trump Foster Youth to Independence housing program and the launch of Fostering the Future Accounts in June 2026.
