Foden resurgence keeps City’s title hopes alive ahead of final week

Manchester City reduced their deficit to Premier League leaders Arsenal to two points following a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Manager Pep Guardiola implemented six changes to the starting lineup, citing logistical fatigue and the need to manage player workload ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea. The decision to rest key figures such as Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, and Jeremy Doku was necessitated by the forthcoming domestic cup contest, though the move initially left the side looking fragmented.

Phil Foden was named man of the match, providing two assists in the first half to shift the momentum. His opening contribution was a backheel for Antoine Semenyo’s goal, a move described by former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp as the "assist of the season" and by ex-City defender Micah Richards as "mesmerising". Foden created five chances in the opening 45 minutes, the most by any player in a Premier League game this season.

The performance marks a significant turnaround for the 25-year-old, who had struggled for form and started just three of his past 13 league games. The manager expressed satisfaction with the display, emphasising that Foden has a big role in the club’s future.
