FSU linebacker commit shuts down his recruitment
Seminoles add linebacker to class as Sims builds front seven

Florida State University has consolidated its recent recruiting efforts with linebacker recruit CJ Ohuabunwa officially shutting down his recruitment process. The commitment, confirmed via social media, marks the latest addition to a class that is increasingly defined by defensive depth. Ohuabunwa’s decision follows a series of high-profile closes, including that of wide receiver Sean Green, signalling a coordinated push by the Seminoles to secure key personnel.

Ohuabunwa, a four-star prospect from Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross, Georgia, stated his intention to join the Seminoles with a direct message on social media: "1000% a seminole!!! Let’s do it." His commitment, which was first reported on Monday, places him among eight recruits who have signed with Florida State in June alone. The university’s recruiting strategy appears heavily weighted towards the defensive line, with seven of the thirteen total commits identified as front-seven prospects.

The acquisition of Ohuabunwa is a significant component of new linebackers coach Ernie Sims’ initial roster building. Sims has already secured three linebackers for the upcoming class, including Ohuabunwa and four-star recruit Jernard Albright, who also concluded his recruitment earlier in the week. This focus on the linebacker position complements the recent addition of four-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune on Wednesday, further reinforcing the defensive unit's structural integrity.

From a performance perspective, Ohuabunwa brings a statistically robust profile to the program. During his junior season, he contributed to a 10-3 record for Greater Atlanta Christian, accumulating 117 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. His defensive versatility was further demonstrated by one interception and two pass breakups, metrics that align with the high standards expected of a prospect ranked No. 74 nationally at his position in the 247Sports composite.

The 247Sports composite ranks Ohuabunwa as the No. 892 overall player and the No. 105 prospect from Georgia. His inclusion in the June class underscores Florida State’s ability to attract top-tier talent from the southeastern United States. With the recruitment window closing for several key targets, the Seminoles are positioning their defensive corps as a central pillar of their competitive strategy for the coming season.
