First Lady Melania Trump urges unity on child welfare and technology policy at Congressional Club luncheon
The First Lady highlighted bipartisan efforts to pass foster care legislation, the fourth reunification of Ukrainian and Russian children, and a global coalition summit involving nearly 50 nations.

First Lady Melania Trump addressed members of the Congressional Club at the 113th First Lady's Luncheon on Wednesday, calling for a unified national approach to improve outcomes for American children. Speaking to an audience of spouses of Members of Congress, administration officials, and business leaders, Mrs. Trump emphasised that collective action is required to secure the future rather than relying on individual persistence alone.
During her remarks, the First Lady highlighted specific institutional achievements, noting the completion of the fourth reunification of Ukrainian and Russian children with their families. She described the process as a significant diplomatic and humanitarian effort involving leadership from both nations to return displaced individuals to safety. Mrs. Trump also pointed to the expansion of the Fostering the Future initiative, which has now reached approximately 33 per cent of states across the country.
The speech detailed the growth of university scholarship programs under the initiative, which are currently available in 15 states including Georgia, Arizona, California, Nebraska, New York, Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Additionally, Mrs. Trump noted that $30 million has been allocated towards the Department of Housing and Urban Development's 2026 budget to support housing for America's foster youth.
On the legislative front, the First Lady promoted new foster care legislation and the BE BEST initiative, urging representatives from the House Ways and Means Committee to stay unified and act in good faith. She referenced a recent visit to Capitol Hill where she worked with leaders from both sides of the political aisle to advance these measures, stating that the goal is to keep the next generation above politics.
Mrs. Trump also drew attention to the White House AI Workshop, which engaged nearly 3,000 schools nationwide in a Presidential AI Challenge. She cited the participation of major technology companies, including Meta, Palantir, OpenAI, Adobe, Zoom Communications, X, and Microsoft, in advancing the mission to empower children with technology. The First Lady noted that all 50 states are participating in the challenge.
The luncheon concluded with the First Lady's address to the United Nations Security Council regarding peace through education, which was part of a broader global engagement. Leaders from almost 50 nations joined her at the White House and the State Department for the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit. Mrs. Trump closed by stating that America's children will ultimately protect future freedom, reinforcing the theme that the world does not move for those who stop.
