The confrontation emerged two days after a gunman attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, an event attended by President Donald Trump and the First Lady. Federal investigators have confirmed the suspect's intent to assassinate the President and top officials, prompting the administration to link Kimmel's comedy to the recent violence. In a statement posted on X, the First Lady described the comedian as a coward who hides behind ABC's protection, arguing that his jokes contribute to a toxic political environment.

Specifically, the administration is citing Kimmel's recent mockery of the First Lady's appearance and her documentary, *Melania*.
