What’s the full match schedule, groups and format for World Cup 2026?
The governing body has finalised the fixture list and knockout structure for the largest tournament in history, with the final set to conclude at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

The 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup is set to commence on 11 June, marking the largest expansion of the tournament with 48 nations competing across 16 venues in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The three-month event, running until 19 July, will host a total of 104 matches, returning the global championship to North America for the first time in 32 years.

In a significant structural shift from previous iterations, the competition will introduce a new knockout phase beginning with a round of 32. This format will precede the traditional round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals, before culminating in the final match. The tournament opens in Mexico with a fixture between Mexico and South Africa, before concluding in the United States at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

To mitigate ambush marketing by brands not affiliated with the governing body, FIFA has implemented a policy of rebranding all 16 stadiums to reflect their host cities. Consequently, the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey has been renamed the New York New Jersey Stadium for the duration of the event, while SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will operate under the designation of the Los Angeles Stadium.

The expanded field includes four nations making their World Cup debut: Cape Verde, Curaçao, Jordan, and Uzbekistan. Defending champions Argentina, captained by Lionel Messi, will contest the title from Qatar 2022, having been drawn into Group J alongside Algeria, Austria, and Jordan.

The full group draw allocates the 48 teams into 12 groups ranging from A to L. Notable configurations include Group C, which features Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland, while Group L contains England, Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Detailed fixture lists have been released, specifying kickoff times in both local time and GMT for every match.

The schedule outlines the progression from the group stage through to the final, with specific venues assigned to each round. The final match is scheduled for 19 July at 3pm GMT, hosted at the rebranded New York New Jersey Stadium, where the two semifinal winners will contest the title.
