FC Bayern marks two decades of queer inclusion ahead of Munich CSD
The Bavarian giants are deploying resources to support diversity in sport, with a parade contingent, a dedicated information gazebo on Ludwigstraße, and the Allianz Arena set for rainbow illumination this Saturday.
FC Bayern Munich is preparing to mark the 20th anniversary of its ‘QUEERPASS Bayern’ fan club during the Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade in Munich this Saturday. The club has integrated the milestone into its broader ‘Red Against Racism’ initiative, which will operate a dedicated information stand in the CSD ‘Sportarea’ to facilitate discussions on diversity within the sporting sector.
The ‘QUEERPASS Bayern’ fan club, which advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusion, will lead a walking group in the parade. Participants are scheduled to meet at 11:15 CEST by the float with start number 123 in Block E on Erhardtstraße, near the corner of Zweibrückenstraße. The procession, which departs at 12:00 CEST, will be accompanied by two FC Bayern vehicles, one equipped with a DJ booth, as well as club mascots Berni and Mia.
In a development for this year’s event, the ‘Red Against Racism’ initiative will host an information gazebo in the ‘Sportarea’ on Ludwigstraße, situated between Schellingstraße and Geschwister-Scholl-Platz. The stand aims to create a space for dialogue regarding diversity in sport and will be supported by members of FC Bayern’s volunteer development programme, ‘PACK MA’S’.
The initiative is also providing support to the independent queer sports network ‘Sportpride’, which campaigns for the normalisation of queer people in sport. ‘Sportpride’ will maintain its own presence at the information stand in the ‘Sportarea’, reinforcing the club’s engagement with external networks focused on inclusion.
The day’s activities will conclude with the Allianz Arena being illuminated in rainbow colours from 21:30 to 23:00 CEST. This lighting of the stadium is an annual tradition for FC Bayern during the CSD celebrations, serving as a visible symbol of the club’s commitment to tolerance and respectful coexistence.
