Fatal shooting of Palestinian teenager during Israeli military raid in Nablus
A 15-year-old died in hospital after being struck by live ammunition while exiting a commercial area; the Israeli military cites stone-throwing as the trigger for standard apprehension procedures.

A 15-year-old Palestinian teenager has died following injuries sustained during a military operation in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. The incident occurred in the Rafidia district, where the teenager was struck in the shoulder with live ammunition while exiting the area. According to reports from Palestinian media and the official news agency Wafa, the youth was transferred to a nearby hospital but succumbed to critical injuries sustained from the gunshot wound.
Palestinian municipal officials, including communications director Abood al-Aker, stated that six Israeli army vehicles arrived in the district in the morning to speak with shop owners. The municipality reported that the shooting took place as the forces were departing the city. Officials expressed confusion regarding the motive for the use of lethal force, noting that the teenager was shot as they were leaving the commercial area without a clear justification provided by the military.
In contrast, the Israeli military has attributed the incident to operational activity within the area. Forces stated that a Palestinian individual hurled stones at their units, prompting the initiation of standard suspect apprehension procedures. The military confirmed that fire was directed at the suspect as a result of this engagement and acknowledged reports that a Palestinian was killed at the scene.
This event underscores the continued volatility across the occupied Palestinian territory since the escalation of hostilities in October 2023. Violence has intensified in the West Bank, with the Israeli army and settlers responsible for hundreds of Palestinian deaths and widespread destruction. The Palestinian Health Ministry highlighted this broader context by noting a separate incident yesterday where Israeli settlers killed a 25-year-old man in Deir Dibwan.
The ministry further reported that at least 16 people have been killed in Israeli settler attacks this year alone. Victims in these incidents have ranged in age from a 13-year-old child to a 60-year-old individual, illustrating the demographic breadth of the casualties. These developments occur against a backdrop of regional instability, with recent attacks in southern Lebanon and Gaza also resulting in civilian deaths despite fragile ceasefire agreements.
The conflicting narratives surrounding the Nablus raid reflect the broader difficulties in establishing accountability and clarity within the current security environment. While the military frames the action as a necessary response to stone-throwing, Palestinian officials describe an unprovoked shooting during a routine exit. The lack of a unified account from both sides continues to complicate the governance landscape in the region.
