Explosions at reported Syrian army weapons depot injure at least four
Rescue efforts were hindered by continuing blasts near al-Eis, south of Aleppo, as officials closed roads and urged residents to remain indoors.
A series of explosions at a reported Syrian army weapons depot near al-Eis, south of Aleppo, injured at least four people early on Monday, according to Syria’s state-run SANA news agency.
Faisal Mohammad Ali, head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, told SANA that rescuers had evacuated four injured people from the site. He said continuing explosions were preventing emergency services from reaching the area.
Officials urged civilians to stay away from the site while roads leading to it were closed to protect residents, according to Aleppo’s Internal Security Command.
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib told residents not to leave their homes temporarily. Hospitals, ambulances and emergency teams were placed on full alert.
The cause of the explosions was not immediately clear. The extent of the damage and whether there were further casualties remained unknown.
