A supermajority of EuroLeague’s 13 permanent clubs reportedly rejected an NBA proposal to merge the competitions and create NBA Europe, according to Yahoo Sports, citing Front Office Sports and ESPN. The clubs met in Cernobbio, Italy, on Tuesday.

Barcelona, Fenerbahce and Olympiacos were among those reported to have opposed the offer. The vote and proposal details have not been independently confirmed in the supplied reporting.

The NBA proposal reportedly required EuroLeague to pause planned expansion and valued the competition below its reported US$3 billion expectation. No precise offer value was reported.

EuroLeague has 20 teams and reportedly aims to grow to as many as 24 by the 2027–28 season. The NBA is working towards a 16-team European league, potentially launching as soon as 2027.
