The report, published on 7 August 2026, quantifies how effectively each organisation has structured its roster for the final stretch of the season and potential October play.
The Los Angeles Dodgers secured the top ranking in roster completion with a score of 90 per cent. This rating was driven primarily by the acquisition of pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers, alongside supplementary moves for Seth Halvorsen, Kris Bubic, and catchers Ben Rortvedt and Hunter Feduccia. The analysis noted that the Dodgers executed the most effective deadline strategy in the league, absorbing the value of Skubal while managing injury-related needs in the catching position.
In the American League, the Boston Red Sox were identified as the most complete team, achieving a roster completion rating of 81 per cent and ranking second overall in MLB. The evaluation highlighted significant optimism regarding the potential return of key players, including Adley Rutschman, Curtis Mead, and Garrett Crochet, which bolstered their projected playoff probability to 97.8 per cent.
Conversely, the Detroit Tigers emerged as the most subtract-heavy team, trading the largest volume of big league talent, largely centred on the Skubal deal. Despite this significant roster reduction, the Tigers retained the third-best total of prospect value returned, positioning them as a second-most subtract-heavy organisation in the majors while remaining in contention for the AL Central title.
The Milwaukee Brewers faced criticism for their deadline execution, which the report characterised as a missed opportunity. With a roster completion rating of 72 per cent, analysts described their moves as disappointing, particularly in comparison to the package the Tigers received for Skubal. The evaluation suggested that while the Brewers remain a competitive team, they failed to maximise their potential given the market dynamics.
Other notable strategic divergences included the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles, who prioritised acquiring prospect value. The Mets secured 11 prospects, the highest quantity in the league, while the Orioles added more prospect value than any other club, despite trading significant big league talent. The Arizona Diamondbacks were noted for a notably slow deadline, making only three player moves and ranking 18th in roster completion.
