Engadget names Insta360 Luna Pro as leading Pocket 4 alternative
The review recommends the US$600 Luna Pro as the closest rival to DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4, while pointing to the older Pocket 3 as a lower-priced choice.
Engadget has compared gimbal cameras for buyers seeking an alternative to DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4, which the publication says is not officially available in the United States. Its top pick is Insta360’s Luna Pro, with DJI’s Pocket 3 recommended for buyers looking to spend less.
Engadget lists the Luna Pro at US$600, the same price as the Pocket 4. It highlights the camera’s 1-inch sensor, 8K recording, subject tracking and detachable display. The review says its stabilisation and battery life compare well with DJI’s model, but notes the Luna Pro has 47GB of built-in storage, against 107GB for the Pocket 4.
The review also flags a possible weakness in the Luna Pro’s I-Log recording mode: recent tests cited by Engadget suggest it may have less dynamic range than the Pocket 4. The publication says the camera delivers strong image quality in its regular picture mode.
Engadget lists the Pocket 3, released in 2023, at around US$439 and says it remains a strong mid-priced option. It offers a 1-inch sensor, subject tracking and 4K recording up to 120 frames per second, but relies on microSD storage and has less capable log recording than the newer Pocket 4.
For tighter budgets, the review describes the US$270 Ordro UHD-M5 as a beginner option, citing its smaller sensor and weaker image quality than the DJI and Insta360 models. It says the US$189 SJCam C400 lacks a three-axis stabiliser and produces poor image quality, despite its low price and long battery life.
Engadget says it assessed the cameras for video quality, stabilisation, ease of use, battery life and storage, with image quality given the greatest weight. The publication discloses that it may receive commissions from purchases made through links in its review.
