Edu leaves Nottingham Forest after just over a year
Nottingham Forest’s global head of football has departed, with George Syrianos expected to assume his responsibilities.
Edu has left Nottingham Forest after just over a year as the club’s global head of football, according to a report published by Yahoo Sports.
His contract is believed to have been terminated, although the report does not present that as officially confirmed. Chief football officer George Syrianos is expected to take on Edu’s responsibilities, with no replacement anticipated for the role.
Edu was appointed in July 2025 with a remit that also covered Olympiacos and Rio Ave, clubs owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. He joined after six years at Arsenal, where he became the club’s first sporting director in 2022.
His position came under scrutiny after reported tensions with former Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed last September. The Yahoo Sports report also said Edu had not attended a match since February, without specifying the scope of that claim.
The departure follows the appointment last week of Theodore Giannikos as Nottingham Forest chief executive. Giannikos replaced Lina Souloukou, who stepped down at the end of last season.
