Eagles camp Day 10 live updates, highlights. Who’s winning safety battle?
First-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion notes improved cohesion, but hamstring issues sideline key receivers and edge rusher Jonathan Greenard faces extended absence.

The Philadelphia Eagles concluded their tenth training camp practice on August 11 at the Jefferson Health Training Center, marking a pivotal moment in the second week of preparations. First-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion reported that the unit appeared more comfortable operating under his direction, suggesting a gradual stabilization of the playbook and personnel assignments.

Wide receiver performance has begun to shift, with Darius Cooper and Elijah Moore emerging as notable standouts in drills. Both players have started to separate themselves from the rest of the group, capitalising on opportunities created by the absence of higher-profile teammates. However, the receiving corps remains hampered by injuries, with top receiver DeVonta Smith and first-round draft pick Makai Lemon missing their fifth consecutive practice due to hamstring issues.

On the defensive side, the competition for the second starting safety position has intensified. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio stated that the battle between Marcus Epps and Michael Carter remains wide open, with both players taking significant reps alongside starter Drew Mukuba. Fangio described the situation as a "really good competition," indicating that the decision will likely be deferred until closer to the start of the regular season.

Injury management continues to be a primary concern for the coaching staff, particularly regarding edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. Greenard, who suffered a pectoral muscle strain during summer workouts, is not expected to return for at least two weeks. His prolonged absence raises the possibility that he may remain on the physically unable to perform list into the start of the season, potentially causing him to miss the first four games.

The Eagles face a critical stretch in the coming weeks as they attempt to solidify their defensive backfield and manage the health of key offensive weapons. With the safety battle unresolved and significant injury concerns lingering, the coaching staff must navigate roster depth carefully before the preseason concludes.
