DR Congo receives first tranche of Ebola vaccines as death toll climbs

The Democratic Republic of Congo has received its first significant shipment of Ebola vaccines as the country confronts what authorities describe as its deadliest outbreak in history. More than 16,000 doses of the Ervebo vaccine arrived in Kinshasa on Friday, providing immediate resources to health services on the front line of the crisis.
This delivery represents the initial tranche of a broader 70,000-dose pledge made by the World Health Organization and its partners. The arrival highlights a significant policy challenge, as the success of the intervention will depend on the logistics of reaching affected communities and the timeline for delivering the remaining 54,000 pledged doses.
The urgency of the response is underscored by the current mortality figures. The outbreak has claimed more than 2,500 lives from nearly 5,300 confirmed cases. Health officials from the World Health Organization have warned that the epidemic could surpass the deadliest on record, which occurred in West Africa between 2014 and 2016 and caused over 11,000 deaths.
