Dortmund secure second place with 73 points as players eye World Cup break
Julian Ryerson and Waldemar Anton assess the season’s outcome, acknowledging Bayern Munich’s superiority while celebrating the achievement of finishing in the top two.

Borussia Dortmund concluded their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-0 victory against Werder Bremen, securing second place in the league table with a total of 73 points. The result ends the domestic season on a positive note for the Westphalian club, allowing the squad to reflect on their performance before transitioning to international duties.
Full-back Julian Ryerson described the eight-month campaign as a good season, noting that the point tally was decent despite the significant gap to the league leaders. Speaking after the match, Ryerson acknowledged the shortfall in the final standings but emphasised the need to build on the foundation laid during the domestic run.
Defender Waldemar Anton also labelled the domestic season as very good, highlighting that finishing in second place was the achievable goal for the club. Anton explained to Sky Germany that while the team had different ambitions, they managed to secure the position that remained possible by the end of the fixture list.
Anton explicitly congratulated Bayern Munich on their outstanding season, conceding that the champions were the superior team in the league. This diplomatic acknowledgment underscores the reality of the final table, where Dortmund finished behind the league winners despite a strong overall performance.
Both players expressed satisfaction with the result and the team's ability to finish the season strongly. They are now preparing for a ten-day break, which Ryerson noted is crucial for physical recovery and mental state ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
