Dolphins’ Brooks awaits extension amid leadership transition
Jordyn Brooks praises teammate De’Von Achane’s new deal as franchise-building, while focusing on performance with one year left on current contract.

The Miami Dolphins are navigating their first offseason under a new general manager and head coach, a period marked by roster adjustments and contract negotiations. While the organisation has secured a key piece of the future by extending running back De’Von Achane, linebacker Jordyn Brooks remains without a new deal despite a standout season.
Brooks, 28, joined the Dolphins from the Seattle Seahawks in 2024 on a three-year, $26.25 million contract. He has one year remaining on that agreement, which carries a cap hit of $10.86 million for the current year. His current compensation includes a $7.82 million base salary, $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses, and a $50,000 workout bonus.
The 2025 season saw Brooks elevate his performance to an elite level. He led the league with 183 tackles, earning his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections. Despite these accolades and his role as a defensive anchor, the extension process has not yet concluded, leaving the linebacker in a state of professional limbo.
Brooks publicly endorsed Achane’s recent contract, describing it as a necessary move for the team’s stability. He noted that Achane is likely the team’s best player based on skill set and performance over the past two years. Brooks stated that seeing Achane secure his deal made him feel more confident about the franchise’s direction, particularly after losing other key personnel.
Regarding his own situation, Brooks adopted a pragmatic approach when speaking to reporters. He acknowledged the uncertainty of the timeline, stating, "It can go either way honestly, but for me, I'm just controlling what I can control. Play football." He emphasised his gratitude for the opportunity to compete while awaiting resolution.
Analysts suggest that Miami could extend Brooks to create salary cap flexibility in 2026 while retaining a core defensive player. However, until negotiations reach a conclusion, Brooks remains focused on his immediate responsibilities on the field.
