Mookie Betts powers Los Angeles to 15-6 victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers secured a decisive 15-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night, matching their season-high for runs in a single game. Mookie Betts led the offensive charge with two home runs and five runs batted in, supported by solo home runs from Kiké Hernández, Andy Pages, and Will Smith. The Dodgers’ offence was bolstered by 17 hits, though the game was briefly interrupted when Shohei Ohtani was hit by a pitch and subsequently left the contest.

Betts opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run, two-out shot off Rockies starter Kyle Freeland. The home run provided a release for the shortstop, who had been batting .165 prior to the game. Manager Dave Roberts had moved Betts down to the fourth spot in the batting order to address his offensive struggles, a decision that immediately paid dividends as Betts celebrated the hit by pumping his fist.

The Rockies briefly narrowed the gap in the second inning when Hunter Goodman hit a home run off Eric Lauer’s first pitch. However, the Dodgers quickly reasserted their dominance. Kiké Hernández, making his season debut after recovering from offseason left elbow surgery, led off the third inning with his first home run of the year. Hernández later left the game in the fifth inning with a left oblique strain.

Andy Pages extended the lead with a 418-foot home run to left-center field, marking the longest hit of the game and tying his career high with four hits. The Dodgers added four more runs in the fourth inning, capitalising on a wild pitch by Freeland and a two-run double from Pages. Freddie Freeman contributed with a sacrifice fly, pushing the score to 8-1 before the fifth inning brought two additional runs via an RBI double from Miguel Rojas and a sacrifice fly from Hyeseong Kim.

Betts delivered a five-run sixth inning with a three-run shot to center field, followed by a two-run homer from Will Smith that made the score 15-1. The Rockies managed to score five runs in the ninth inning, including a home run by catcher Brett Sullivan, off position player Miguel Rojas, who made his 10th career mound appearance. Shohei Ohtani, who was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning, finished 0 for 2 with one run scored before leaving the game in the fifth.

The victory marks a significant offensive milestone for Los Angeles, who limited Colorado to four runs until the final frame. The series concludes on Wednesday night in an all-Japanese matchup, with Rockies right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano set to start against Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani.
