The Los Angeles Dodgers have secured their 14th consecutive Major League Baseball playoff berth after defeating the Cincinnati Reds 4–1, matching Atlanta’s record for successive postseason appearances set from 1991 to 2005.
The Dodgers entered the game with a 91–59 record and became the third team assured of a playoff spot, after Milwaukee and Tampa Bay. The result also reduced Los Angeles’ magic number to three for a fifth consecutive National League West title.
Tarik Skubal pitched seven shutout innings for Los Angeles, allowing three hits while striking out nine and walking one, according to Fox Sports and The Associated Press. Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernández hit home runs, while Kiké Hernández added an RBI single.
Elly de la Cruz hit a reported 457-foot home run for Cincinnati in the ninth inning. Fox Sports reported it as the longest home run by a Reds player this season and the longest at Great American Ballpark this year.
The Dodgers are pursuing their 13th National League West title in 14 seasons. The team has also been described as the reigning two-time World Series champions.
