Dodgers back $60 million Kyle Tucker for home series despite statistical split
Manager Dave Roberts confirms the outfielder will start all games against the Pittsburgh Pirates, a decision that signals institutional confidence in a player whose home performance has diverged sharply from his road results.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has confirmed that outfielder Kyle Tucker will start the entire upcoming home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium. The announcement marks a clear commitment to the player, who is earning $60 million for the 2026 season, following a recent period of uncertainty regarding his role in the lineup.
The decision comes as the Dodgers return from a successful road trip in Colorado. Roberts previously benched Tucker during a game in the last series against the Milwaukee Brewers, citing both the player’s struggles at home and a desire to provide playing time for Alex Call. By reinstating Tucker for all games against the Pirates, Roberts is attempting to project stability and belief in the outfielder’s ability to perform under pressure.
Tucker’s season has been defined by a significant disparity between his home and road statistics. At Dodger Stadium, he is hitting .189 with two home runs and 17 RBIs. In contrast, his road performance is considerably stronger, with a .272 batting average, nine home runs, and 38 RBIs. This split has raised questions about whether environmental or mechanical factors are influencing his output at the park.
To address these issues, Tucker has altered his pre-game routine. For the first time this season, he participated in live batting practice ahead of the series. The outfielder stated that he is attempting to find a repeatable swing with good ball flight, whether hitting the ball the other way or pulling it, in an effort to improve his reads on pitches at the stadium.
Tucker acknowledged that his performance has not been consistent this year, noting that he decided to try a different approach to see if it would lead to success at the plate. He expressed hope that the additional live reps would help him carry a better feel into the games.
The outfielder will have the opportunity to test this new routine on Friday, as the Dodgers open the series against the Pirates. The outcome of the series may provide further insight into whether the managerial decision to back Tucker is yielding the desired results.
