DeLoach secures historic Fargo All-American status with fifth-place finish

Koa DeLoach, a signee to Davidson College and former North Bay Haven wrestler, has secured Fargo All-American honours following a fifth-place finish at the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. The result marks the highest placement achieved by any male wrestler from Bay County, establishing a new regional benchmark in the sport.

Competing in the 113-pound weight class, DeLoach began his campaign with decisive victories in the Round of 128. He defeated Jack Gogel by technical fall with a score of 10-0, followed by a 12-2 technical fall against Kansas wrestler Tanner Rhoton. These wins advanced him into the championship-side bracket, where he faced Oklahoma’s Turner Ross in the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal bout proved to be a tightly contested match, with Ross ultimately securing a 14-11 decision victory over DeLoach. Despite the loss, DeLoach remained in contention for All-American status, which is awarded to wrestlers finishing in the top eight of the tournament. He advanced to the consolation bracket to compete for fifth place.

In the fifth-place match, DeLoach faced Illinois wrestler Niko Odiotti. He secured a 14-12 decision victory, cementing his second career Fargo All-American honour. The reigning Bay County Wrestler of the Year now joins an elite group of national competitors, with his performance standing as a significant achievement for local athletics.

The U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious national wrestling tournaments, drawing top talent from across the United States. DeLoach’s ability to navigate the field and secure a top-eight finish underscores his readiness for collegiate competition at Davidson College.
