Dallas Mavericks offer non-cash package for rare Cooper Flagg card

The Dallas Mavericks have proposed a substantial non-cash package to the owner of a rare, one-of-one autographed Cooper Flagg NBA Debut Patch card. The offer was made in response to the card being pulled during a live stream by RhodyBreakers, a division of the Baseball Cards of Rhode Island retail shop.
The Mavericks’ proposal includes two premium lower-level season ticket packages for 32 years, referencing Flagg’s jersey number, alongside a signed game-worn rookie jersey. Additional incentives include a post-game photo with Flagg, a private photoshoot with the Rookie of the Year and Championship trophies, a VIP tour of the practice facility, and an expenses-paid road trip to see the team play the Boston Celtics.
The card features a game-worn patch from Flagg’s NBA debut on 22 October 2025 and is part of the 2026 Topps Chrome Update Basketball set. Topps shared an image of the card on social media on Monday night, confirming its existence and the team’s interest in acquiring the item for their own collection.
This approach mirrors a strategy employed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024 regarding a Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch card. The Pirates offered a similar non-cash package to the 11-year-old owner, who rejected the offer and instead sold the card at auction for $1.1 million. That precedent suggests that collectors may prioritise liquid capital over experiential rewards.
It remains unclear whether the owner of the Flagg card has accepted the Mavericks’ offer or if the item will proceed to a public auction. There is also a discrepancy in the timeline, with the Mavericks’ offer dated 6 August while RhodyBreakers claims the card was pulled on 11 August. The exact monetary value of the card is currently undetermined.
