Wallace, who was signed as a free agent on 2 July, joins the Smokies following his stint with the ACL Cubs. Meanwhile, left-hander Drew Pomeranz has cleared waivers and been assigned to Triple-A Iowa, with his future status pending a decision on whether to report or elect free agency. In South Bend, the Cubs secured a 4-2 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, driven by a pivotal two-run home run from first baseman Josiah Hartshorn. Starter Ethan Flanagan earned the win with five innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four.
