Cowboys rookie Camden Brown strengthens roster case with two-touchdown performance

Dallas Cowboys undrafted rookie wide receiver Camden Brown recorded three receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns during the team’s 17-7 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The performance, which included scoring passes from quarterbacks Sam Howell and Joe Milton III, was described by head coach Brian Schottenheimer as the most memorable display of the preseason opener.

Brown’s first touchdown arrived late in the second quarter on a 39-yard pass from Howell. He added a second score in the third quarter with a one-handed 20-yard catch from Milton. While the receiving stats were notable, Schottenheimer emphasised that Brown’s value extends beyond his ability to catch the ball, pointing to his work away from the ball and his contributions on special teams.

The coach noted that Brown’s ability to handle pressure and his daily consistency in practice were not surprising to the coaching staff. Schottenheimer stated that Brown understands the importance of contributing in multiple areas to secure a place on the roster, particularly given the depth of the receiving corps which includes established players George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb.

Brown, who played college football at Auburn and Georgia Southern before signing with Dallas, had already received occasional first-team repetitions during training camp. Schottenheimer indicated that the rookie’s consistent performance has made it difficult for the staff to reduce those opportunities, noting that Brown has built credibility throughout camp rather than relying solely on a single game.

Despite the strong showing, the path to the final 53-man roster remains competitive. Brown must maintain his consistency throughout the remainder of training camp to distinguish himself against other receivers vying for the remaining spots. His performance against Seattle serves as a significant argument for his continued inclusion with the first team.
