Corbett to lead Arizona State hockey for season opener
Assistant coach Mike Corbett will take charge for the opening weekend as head coach Greg Powers remains on administrative leave amid an investigation into a player’s collapse.
Arizona State has appointed assistant coach Mike Corbett to lead its hockey team for the season-opening weekend, after head coach Greg Powers was placed on administrative leave amid an investigation into Matthew Mayich’s collapse.
The university said a further interim head coach would be named soon, leaving the longer-term coaching arrangement unclear.
Arizona State is scheduled to open its season against Lindenwood in Maryland Heights, Missouri, on 2–3 October.
Corbett joined the Sun Devils in 2024. He has coached since 1997 and previously served as an assistant at Quinnipiac, where the team won a national championship in 2023.
He was also head coach at Alabama-Huntsville for eight seasons, from 2013 to 2020.
