Coalition reports six missile interceptions over Saudi Arabia

Saudi-led coalition forces said they intercepted and destroyed six ballistic missiles allegedly launched towards the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu on Thursday. The coalition attributed the missiles to Yemen’s Houthis, who had not immediately responded.

Saudi Civil Defence issued alerts for Mecca, Tabuk, Jeddah, Yanbu and Taif, then said the threat had passed and the cities were out of danger.

Separately, Reuters reported that a Greek-operated Patriot system in the wider Yanbu region intercepted a ballistic missile and a drone. The supplied information does not establish whether those were among the six missiles cited by the coalition, or identify their origins.

Yanbu is a key port for Saudi crude exports when shipments through the Strait of Hormuz are disrupted.
