Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has announced a 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, confirming the inclusion of Southampton striker Ross Stewart and Rangers winger Findlay Curtis. The selection marks a return to the international stage for Stewart, who ends a four-year absence from the national team, while midfielder Lennon Miller has been omitted from the final list.

Stewart, 29, has scored 11 goals in 33 club appearances this season, including a goal in the Championship play-off semi-final victory against Middlesbrough. His selection places him ahead of other attacking options, including Hull City’s Oli McBurnie, who scored 18 times during the domestic campaign. The squad also features fellow winger Ben Gannon-Doak, who has recently returned from injury at Bournemouth.

In the goalkeeper position, 43-year-old Craig Gordon has been retained alongside Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly. The trio has made only 15 appearances between them this season, with Gunn’s sole club appearance for Nottingham Forest coming as a substitute. Sportscene analysis has suggested that the inclusion of three right-backs may reflect concerns regarding injury depth in that specific defensive area.

Southampton’s Tommy Conway has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury sustained during the second leg of the play-off semi-final. Despite his absence, the squad retains significant experience, with eleven players also featuring in Steve Clarke’s Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 squads. Captain Andy Robertson and John McGinn, Scotland’s all-time leading goalscorer, remain key figures in the group.

Scotland will compete in Group C against Haiti, Morocco, and Brazil. The opening two matches against Haiti and Morocco will be held in Massachusetts, with the final fixture against Brazil taking place in Miami. The team will begin their preparation with a friendly against Curacao at Hampden Park on 30 May, followed by a final warm-up game against Bolivia in New Jersey on 6 June.
