The speculation intensified following social media posts from Kelce’s trainers, Andrew Spruill and Johnny Olsen, alongside Florida Atlantic University football director Cris Carter, who referenced a potential retirement and subsequent induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Kelce, 36, ended months of uncertainty in March by confirming he would return to the Chiefs. His decision was further elaborated upon during an appearance at Tight End University on 23 June, where he told podcast co-hosts that his primary motivation for extending his career was his passion for the game. This confirmation came shortly before his marriage to Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 3 July.
The recent shift in narrative stems from posts made on 20 July by Carter and Olsen. Carter shared an Instagram photo featuring himself and Spruill with Kelce, captioning the image with a reference to “THE LAST DANCE” and stating that the “next stop” for the tight end is the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The post highlighted the long history of the trio, noting they began working with Kelce before his rookie year in the NFL.
Johnny Olsen, owner of Johnny O’s Gymnasium in Boca Raton, Florida, posted a separate tribute that reinforced the retirement hints. Olsen described Kelce as a “true friend” rather than just a client, expressing support for the upcoming season while predicting he would see Kelce in Canton wearing a gold jacket in five years. Under NFL rules, players become eligible for the Hall of Fame only after being completely removed from the game for five consecutive seasons.
Kelce has spent his entire professional career with the Chiefs, having been selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Cincinnati. A three-time Super Bowl champion, he is scheduled to open the 2026 season at home against the Denver Broncos on Monday, 14 September. While Kelce has not explicitly stated this will be his final season, the coordinated messaging from his training team has drawn significant attention to the potential conclusion of his tenure.
