The Listed Chester Stakes on the Roodee is the headline event for Saturday’s horse racing schedule, with coverage commencing at 1.55pm on Sky Sports Racing. The race features a field of eight, with the primary contest expected to be between Lazy Griff and By The Book.

Charlie Johnston’s Lazy Griff enters the contest carrying a three-pound penalty following a recent victory at Sandown. The horse finished seventh in the Goodwood Cup last month and must return to his best form to overcome the weight handicap and secure the prize.

By The Book, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by Billy Loughnane, is considered a major contender. The five-year-old is lightly raced for his age and recorded a creditable second-place finish in a similar grade at Beverley in early July.

Other notable contenders in the Chester Stakes include Fantasy World, who is switching back to flat racing after competing over obstacles earlier in the year. The Andrew Balding-trained horse offers a fascinating alternative in the field.

Coverage also extends to Lingfield and Newton Abbot, where competitive races are scheduled throughout the afternoon. At Newton Abbot, Handlethekettle seeks a third consecutive victory in the Aubrey Loze Memorial Handicap Hurdle, while Supreme Yeats aims to extend his winning streak following a success at Bangor.

At Lingfield, Asuka, trained by George Boughey, looks to maintain an unbeaten record on the turf in a handicap. The yard has been in strong form recently, with Libertango winning the Lowther at York earlier in the week.
