Chelsea target early pre-season return for Estevao amid managerial transition
Estevao’s season ended by Manchester United defeat, with Xabi Alonso set to assess squad commitment ahead of new campaign

Chelsea are targeting an early return for 19-year-old Brazilian Estevao in the upcoming pre-season, following a grade four hamstring injury that concluded his debut campaign. The injury, sustained during a Premier League defeat against Manchester United, ruled the winger out for the remainder of the season and ended his prospects of participating in the World Cup.
Estevao, who recorded eight goals and four assists across 36 appearances, has returned to England from Brazil to continue his rehabilitation. The club expressed hope that he will be fit enough to participate in the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, which includes fixtures against Tottenham and Juventus.
The squad is currently preparing for the final two matches of the season under interim manager Calum McFarlane, who takes charge against Tottenham and Sunderland. This follows the dismissal of Liam Rosenior less than a month ago, a decision made in the wake of the club’s defeat in the FA Cup final.
New manager Xabi Alonso officially commences his four-year contract on 1 July. Reports indicate that Alonso will make final squad decisions with a focus on player commitment, a stance that may influence the future of several key figures within the current setup.
Among those under scrutiny is midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who is reportedly linked with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester City. Unable to agree on an improved contract, Fernandez is expected to play his final game for the club against Sunderland. Alonso is understood to prioritise players who are fully committed to the institution.
