Chegg Pushes Subscription Discounts and Third-Party Perks to Retain Student Users
Chegg is promoting its $16 and $20 monthly study plans alongside complimentary access to Tinder Gold and Busuu, while leveraging a Valore partnership for textbook savings.

Chegg has expanded its promotional strategy for student subscribers, bundling core academic tools with third-party lifestyle perks in an effort to drive retention and reduce churn. The company is currently highlighting its subscription tiers alongside rotating benefits that include complimentary access to Tinder Gold and the language learning platform Busuu for active members.
The company’s primary revenue drivers remain its study-focused subscriptions. Chegg Study Unlimited Access is priced at $20 per month, offering a comprehensive suite that includes homework solutions, quiz and exam assistance, expert tutor proofreading, plagiarism detection, and advanced mathematics support. A lower-tier option, Chegg Study, is available for $16 per month without the need for a promotional code, providing step-by-step homework solutions for students requiring basic academic support.
Beyond direct tutoring, Chegg continues to leverage artificial intelligence as a central component of its service offering. The platform integrates AI-assisted learning tools into its 24/7 question portal, aiming to help students understand problem-solving processes rather than simply providing answers. This technological shift marks a significant evolution from the company’s origins as a physical textbook rental service, positioning it as a broader edtech provider.
To address the high cost of academic materials, Chegg has partnered with Valore to facilitate textbook rentals and used book purchases. The company advertises savings of up to 90% on rentals compared to buying new texts. Through the Valore integration, users can access thousands of additional titles and digital access codes, compare prices across multiple vendors, and utilise fast shipping options, although availability is subject to inventory constraints.
For users testing the platform, Chegg offers a free seven-day trial of Chegg Writing, which includes grammar checking, citation assistance, and plagiarism detection. The company frames these combined offerings as a holistic resource for academic success, though the inclusion of dating app subscriptions underscores a strategy to bundle high-perceived-value lifestyle services to maintain subscriber engagement.
