Celtic and Rangers meet with league momentum at stake
Celtic lead Rangers by five points before the first league meeting of the season, but Rangers won the clubs’ previous clash 3–0 in the Scottish League Cup.
Celtic are due to host Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday 20 September in the first Scottish Premiership meeting between the Old Firm rivals this season. Kick-off is scheduled for 12pm BST.
Celtic hold a five-point lead over Rangers in the league, but the visitors won the clubs’ previous meeting 3–0 in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on 13 September.
According to Yahoo Sports, Celtic enter the match after consecutive defeats, including a 3–1 Europa League loss to Ferencváros. Rangers have won seven of their past eight matches after being eliminated during European qualifying.
The fixture is also expected to be played without travelling Rangers supporters, following a reported ban on away fans at Old Firm matches this season.
Yahoo Sports reports that Celtic are without Yang Hyun-Jun on international duty, while Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and Jota are injured. Rangers are reported to be missing captain Lawrence Shankland and injured forward Youssef Chermiti.
