Israel kills at least 12 Palestinians in Gaza amid ‘ceasefire’
Attacks on police vehicles and officers in Khan Younis, Gaza City, and Beit Lahiya mark a significant failure of the October 2025 agreement brokered by President Donald Trump.

Israeli forces killed at least 12 Palestinians in coordinated attacks across the Gaza Strip on 24 April 2026, representing a direct breach of the ceasefire agreement brokered by United States President Donald Trump in October 2025. The violence occurred on a single day, with specific incidents targeting law enforcement and civilians in Khan Younis, Gaza City, and Beit Lahiya.

The most severe incident involved an attack on a police vehicle in Khan Younis, which resulted in the deaths of at least eight people, including three civilian bystanders. This event followed an intervention by security forces attempting to break up a fight in the area. In Gaza City, a separate assault claimed the lives of two police officers, while a bombing of a residence in Beit Lahiya killed two additional individuals.

Gaza's Ministry of Interior issued a strong condemnation of these events, specifically highlighting the targeting of police forces. The ministry stated that the continued silence of international organisations regarding the killing of civilian police officers constitutes complicity with the Israeli occupation. Officials emphasised that there is no justification for targeting a police force that provides essential services to citizens across the enclave.

Since the truce came into effect last October, health authorities report that at least 984 people have been killed and 2,235 injured by Israel. These figures represent a continuation of daily violations despite a decrease in the intensity of bombardment. The overall death toll for the war has now exceeded 72,500, with more than 172,000 others injured, affecting more than seven percent of the territory's population.

Hamas has described the latest escalation as a clear failure of mediators and the international community to uphold the agreement. The group characterised the actions of the Netanyahu government as an unprecedented bloody approach that ignores the role of guarantors. Meanwhile, reconstruction remains stalled and the envisioned international security force has not been formed, leaving governance in a state of uncertainty.

Under the current administration, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government continues to conduct military operations in Gaza while simultaneously attacking south Lebanon in violation of a separate truce with Hezbollah. Leading rights groups and United Nations investigators maintain that the Israeli military campaign amounts to genocide, a conclusion that underscores the severity of the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis.
