CBS Sports projects LSU into AP Top 10 as Oregon and Michigan slide
LSU is projected to rise to eighth after its 51–10 win over Clemson, while Oregon and Michigan are tipped to drop following narrower victories.
CBS Sports is projecting significant movement in the AP Top 25 after Week 1 of the 2026 college football season, with LSU expected to enter the top 10 and Oregon and Michigan forecast to fall.
LSU is projected to climb from 11th to eighth after defeating Clemson 51–10. The scale of the win is expected to attract support from voters, although CBS Sports noted that the Tigers’ position remains a projection rather than a confirmed ranking.
Oregon is projected to drop from second to seventh after needing a late effort to defeat Boise State. The Ducks trailed at half-time and required a strong performance from quarterback Dante Moore to secure a one-touchdown win.
Michigan is forecast to fall from 16th to 20th after narrowly defeating Western Michigan. CBS Sports identified the result, along with continuing questions surrounding the Wolverines’ quarterback position, as likely to weigh on voters.
Ohio State is projected to retain the No. 1 ranking. Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas, Miami and Indiana are forecast to complete the rest of the projected top six, with Texas scheduled to face Ohio State in Week 2.
Virginia and Florida are projected to enter the poll at Nos. 24 and 25. Houston and Louisville are forecast to drop out. The final AP Top 25 will depend on voters’ ballots and may differ from the CBS Sports projection.
