Fantasy Baseball Week 22 Preview: Top 10 sleeper pitchers feature Dustin May, Luis Castillo
Scott White’s weekly preview highlights ten pitchers available in fewer than 80 per cent of leagues

CBS Sports analyst Scott White has released a preview for Fantasy Baseball Week 22, identifying ten streaming pitchers available for the scoring window from 17 to 23 August. The recommendations focus on players rostered in 80 per cent or fewer of CBS Sports leagues, offering fantasy managers options when reliable starting pitching is scarce.

The list includes Ian Seymour, Kyle Leahy, Dustin May, Andre Pallante, Tyler Mahle, Luis Castillo, J.T. Ginn, Brandon Young, Gage Jump, and Landen Roupp. White notes that while only the top two or three selections constitute full endorsements, the remainder provide strategic alternatives for difficult weeks.

Ian Seymour leads the sleeper category despite being rostered in more than 80 per cent of leagues, a threshold White skirting to emphasise his value. The Tampa Bay reliever has recorded a 3.40 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his past 10 appearances, facing the Toronto Blue Jays, who rank second-worst in offensive production.

Kyle Leahy of the St Louis Cardinals is highlighted for his recent strike-throwing consistency, posting a 1.86 ERA over his last 10 starts. He faces a doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies, with White pointing to a 50 per cent ground ball rate as a key factor against smaller venues.

Dustin May, now with the Milwaukee Brewers, is recommended against the Seattle Mariners, who rank last in runs scored. White observes that May’s shift to leading with his cutter has yielded strong results in his two starts since the trade.

Luis Castillo, pitching for the Chicago White Sox, is noted for a dominant outing against the Los Angeles Angels, where he struck out 10 batters over seven one-hit innings. He faces the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets in back-to-back starts this week, presenting a high-reward option despite questions regarding sustainability.

Other pitchers in the top 10 include Andre Pallante, who relies on ground balls for quality starts against Cincinnati and Philadelphia; Tyler Mahle, whose strikeout numbers have risen with the Atlanta Braves; and J.T. Ginn, who faces the Kansas City Royals.

The group also features Brandon Young of the Baltimore Orioles, who faces the Tampa Bay Rays twice, and Gage Jump of the Oakland Athletics, who also takes on Kansas City. Landen Roupp of the San Francisco Giants rounds out the list, facing the Cleveland Guardians, whose offense ranks third-worst in the league.

The analysis is specific to CBS Sports leagues and may not reflect roster availability on other fantasy platforms. Matchup quality and player availability remain subject to change throughout the Week 22 scoring period.
