Carneiro’s last-second field goal lifts Ole Miss over Louisville
A 48-yard kick from Lucas Carneiro gave ninth-ranked Ole Miss a 41–38 win over No. 24 Louisville in Nashville.
Lucas Carneiro’s 48-yard field goal as time expired secured ninth-ranked Ole Miss a 41–38 victory over No. 24 Louisville in the Music City Kickoff at Nissan Stadium on Sunday night.
The ranked matchup developed into a second-half contest after a scrappy opening. Louisville quarterback Lincoln Kienholz, making his first career start after three seasons on Ohio State’s bench, levelled the score at 38 with a seven-yard touchdown run with 1:28 remaining.
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss then put his side in position for the winning kick, completing an 18-yard pass on third-and-six. He finished with 351 passing yards and three touchdowns, adding a rushing score after half-time.
Kienholz had earlier connected with Lawayne McCoy for a 54-yard touchdown catch-and-run. Ole Miss responded through Chambliss, who threw two 62-yard touchdown passes to Deuce Alexander in the third quarter and later added a 35-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Odom.
Running back Kewan Lacy carried 17 times for 61 yards and a one-yard touchdown before leaving with a thigh injury, according to ESPN. No further details were provided.
Ole Miss entered the season after losing to Miami in last season’s College Football Playoff semi-finals.
