Cardinals’ Brissett to attend minicamp amid contract standoff
Jacoby Brissett enters final year of deal as Arizona begins rebuilding under Mike LaFleur with Carson Beck in sights

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett plans to report to mandatory minicamp, which runs from today through Wednesday, June 10, despite an ongoing contract dispute. The move allows the veteran to avoid a $107,911 fine for absence, though his actual participation in practices remains uncertain.
Brissett is entering the final year of a two-year, $12.5 million contract signed in 2025, with a base salary of $4.88 million for 2026. He is seeking a raise to reflect his status as the projected Week 1 starter, a role he assumed after originally being signed to serve as a backup to Kyler Murray.
Reporting to camp is a common workaround for players in contract disputes, enabling them to avoid fines while holding firm until a new deal is reached. By attending, Brissett signals compliance with league requirements, but he could elect to hold in and simply not practice, leaving his involvement in the three-day workout open to interpretation.
The Cardinals are currently in a rebuilding phase under first-year head coach Mike LaFleur. While Brissett provides veteran stability with 65 career starts, the organisation views third-round draft pick Carson Beck as the long-term future at quarterback. Beck, who holds a 37-6 record in 43 career starts between Georgia and Miami, is expected to eventually take over the starting role.
Brissett started 12 games in 2025, resulting in a 1-11 record for the team. The Cardinals are currently the betting favourite at DraftKings Sportsbook, with odds of +250, to finish with the fewest wins in the NFL. The team’s performance suggests that Brissett’s return does little to alter the club’s trajectory as they transition toward Beck.
The 33-year-old is in his 11th NFL season, having been drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round in 2016 out of NC State. His career statistics include a 20-25 record in 65 starts, a 61.9% completion rate, and an 86.4 passer rating across 101 games played.
