Cagliari FC has confirmed that French forward Yael Trepy is in intensive care at the hospital in Sassari following a near-drowning incident. The 20-year-old player was rescued on Sunday after swallowing significant amounts of water in a swimming pool in Porto Cervo, northern Sardinia, according to Italian media reports.
In a statement released on Monday, the club acknowledged Trepy’s condition and confirmed he is in close contact with medical staff and his family. Cagliari requested that privacy be respected regarding the details of the incident and stated they would provide further updates as soon as possible.
Italian media reports indicate that doctors have placed Trepy in a medically induced coma following the rescue. The club’s official statement did not disclose the specific circumstances surrounding the near-drowning, nor did it independently confirm the use of a medically induced coma, attributing those details to local media coverage.
Trepy joined Cagliari’s academy in 2022 from the Paris-based team Union Sportive Creteil. He scored one goal in eight Serie A appearances last season and featured for 54 minutes in Cagliari’s 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo on Friday.
