UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has raised the possibility of Britain rejoining the European Union, reopening debate over Brexit.

France 24 reported that Burnham put the idea on the table on Wednesday. The broadcaster characterised the move as breaking a taboo for a UK prime minister.

Catherine Barnard, professor of European law at the University of Cambridge, said Burnham was signalling that Britain was considering alternatives to being outside the EU.
