Browns quarterback competition continues as Sanders set to start against Bills
Shedeur Sanders is expected to lead the Cleveland Browns in Saturday’s match against the Buffalo Bills, with the team’s coaching staff maintaining a strict evaluation process for the starting role.

The Cleveland Browns will host the Buffalo Bills in a Week 2 NFL preseason fixture on Saturday, 22 August, at Huntington Bank Field. The match is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be available exclusively via live stream on DAZN, with no traditional television channel listed for the broadcast.
The primary focus for Cleveland remains the ongoing competition for the starting quarterback position. Shedeur Sanders is expected to begin the game, continuing a dual evaluation process with Deshaun Watson. Browns coach Todd Monken has maintained that both players remain listed as co-No. 1 options, a decision that will ultimately determine who starts Week 1 of the regular season.
In the previous week’s match against the Bears, Watson started and completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 yards. He led two first-half scoring drives, which constituted the entirety of Cleveland’s offensive production in a 34-10 defeat. Sanders, who entered the game later, completed six of 11 passes for 79 yards with an interception before being replaced by Dillon Gabriel to finish the contest.
Sanders will use the additional playing time in Saturday’s match to attempt to improve his standing in the competition. The Browns view these preseason games as critical data points for roster decisions, prioritising performance metrics over the final score.
On the opposing side, the Buffalo Bills are expected to rest their starting personnel, including star quarterback Josh Allen. This decision is anticipated to provide significant playing time for depth players such as Kyle Allen and Shane Buechele, allowing the Bills to evaluate their secondary options ahead of the regular season.
The game is part of a broader Week 2 NFL preseason schedule, which includes other matchups such as the Lions versus the Commanders and the Colts versus the Falcons. For viewers in Canada, DAZN offers access to the game as part of its subscription, which includes NFL Game Pass International coverage of all preseason, regular-season, and playoff games.
